Neath often gets a bit of a bad rap, but there’s so much
about Neath that makes it a great place to live. With a population of 142,000,
it can’t all be that bad!
So, here are a few reasons we think more people should consider buying a property in Neath…
1. Low House Prices
In general, house prices in
Neath are less than in other parts of Wales, especially when you’re comparing
to cities such as Cardiff and Swansea.
The average price for a property in Neath Port Talbot stood at £132,552
in September 2019.
In terms of property types, flats in Neath sold for an average of £85,138, terraced houses for £93,219 and semi-detached properties for £135,553 (according to the current Zoopla estimates).
2. Convenient Transport Links
Neath ticks all the boxes when it comes to transport links. Just a stone’s throw away from the M4 means you can easily travel to other parts of the country. Swansea City Centre is a quick 20-minute drive and Cardiff is just an hour up the road.
And if you don’t drive, the towns bus and train stations make it easy to travel throughout South Wales and even directly to London.
3. Friendly Community
Like many small towns, Neath has a warm tight-knit
community feel. It’s very common to bump into someone you know during your food-shop
and find yourself having a catch up in the frozen veg aisle.
As well as the busy town centre, Neath also has a relaxed and quiet surrounding neighbourhood, making it a perfect area for those that like a quiet life.
4. Good Local Amenities
When it
comes to hospitality, Neath has significantly improved over the last few years.
The city centre now boasts a handful of great restaurants, coffee shops and
bars to fill your evenings and weekends. We particularly love Moruzzi’s, Ten21
and Charlie’s.
While Neath
may not currently have all the popular high street stores you’d find in larger
towns and cities, over the next few years, the town will benefit from investment from the
Targeted Regeneration Investment Programme which will be used to improve
business shopfronts and bring vacant commercial floor space back into business
use.
The Welsh Government has also announced it is investing around £7m to support economic regeneration, business growth and job creation in key designated areas within Neath Port Talbot.
5. Great Schools
When it comes to schools, Neath offers a variety of schools that perform well. According to Neath Port Talbot Council, the majority of pupils across all Neath schools gained A* to C grades in core subjects of their 2019 GCSEs.
Additionally, Neath college was voted by School leavers as the top training provider in Wales and fifth in the UK as part of The School Leaver Awards.
6. Things to do
Many
people in surrounding parts of Wales are unaware of Neath’s natural beauty.
From the Gnoll, Victoria Gardens, Aberdulais Falls, Afan Forrest Park and
Aberavon beach just up the road, there’s plenty to keep you active and enjoying
the outdoors.
There is also an annual programme of events to
attract visitors and improve vibrancy within Neath.
The Neath Great Fair is the oldest fair in Wales and is recognised as the fourth largest Chartered Street Trading Fair in the UK. There’s also the newer but highly successful Neath Food and Drink Festival and Neath Real Ale and Cider Festival. These annual events attract thousands of people into Neath to experience what the town has to offer.
